General Overview

The Quality Assurance Technician for Sterile Processing plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of surgical instrument trays. This position is essential for ensuring that all instruments are accurately assembled and ready for use in patient care.

The primary responsibilities include verifying the arrangement of instruments, ensuring they are in optimal working condition, and preparing trays for subsequent processing. The technician is expected to provide immediate feedback and guidance to staff, document findings using designated software, and identify any discrepancies or errors in inventory records.

Key Responsibilities

The following outlines the essential functions of this role:

  • Kit Verification: Regularly audits instrument kits for accuracy and operational readiness, ensuring all kits are logged into the database.
  • Error Analysis: Monitors and identifies patterns in kit discrepancies, presenting findings during monthly team meetings.
  • Feedback and Development: Offers constructive feedback to assemblers, provides coaching to enhance staff performance, and recognizes those who may resist guidance.
  • Staff Assessment: Evaluates team members' receptiveness to feedback and reports trends accordingly.
  • Case Cart Inspection: Reviews case carts for completeness and accuracy, assisting in the creation of priority lists for missing items.
  • Discrepancy Documentation: Ensures all discrepancies are reported accurately.
  • Quality Assurance Support: Contributes to enterprise-wide quality assurance initiatives.
  • Additional Duties: Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Certifications: SPD Certification, Level II Technician

Preferred Certifications: CIS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Surgical Technologist certification preferred; Bachelor's Degree is advantageous.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in sterile processing with certification in SPD.
