Job Overview

The Specimen Receipt and Processing Associate 2 plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate identification, sorting, and labeling of clinical specimens for testing and/or storage. This position serves as a point of contact for routine troubleshooting and resolution, guiding entry-level staff on basic department procedures and assisting with on-boarding new staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately accession and problem-solve clinical specimens, ensuring all samples are properly identified, sorted, and labeled for testing and/or storage.
  • Maintain freezer and inventory levels, identifying errors or potential problems and escalating to senior-level staff as needed.
  • Guide entry-level staff on basic department procedures and assist with on-boarding new staff, promoting a smooth transition and ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Support and respond to after-hour alarms and/or other job-critical functions, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • May handle receipt of compounds and control material, depending on the functional area.
  • Support safety, quality, and 6S requirements and initiatives, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Notify appropriate staff of supply shortages, ensuring seamless operations and minimizing disruptions.
  • Comply with company procedures and regulatory requirements, as applicable, maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity.
  • Communicate clearly, accurately, and timely with cross-functional stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and collaboration.
  • Participate in continuing education through self-study, attending training sessions, and meetings, staying up-to-date on the latest developments and best practices.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology degree may be required for some CAP/CLIA lab locations.
  • 6 months of related experience, with basic knowledge of internal systems and procedures, and demonstrated ability to navigate and resolve routine challenges.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant procedures and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective reporting procedures and control workflow, as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients.
