Crum & Forster is seeking a skilled Underwriter to join our Small Business Construction department. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of primary liability business. You will work closely with our team to achieve departmental goals and develop your underwriting knowledge base.
Key Responsibilities- Work with our manager/mentor to meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals.
- Build skills to make independent underwriting decisions and maintain proper file documentation.
- Develop knowledge of department products and services.
- Gain analytical and strategic decision-making skills by working closely with our mentor.
- Participate in training and initiatives to develop your knowledge base.
- May participate in projects.
- Effectively build and foster agency relationships through marketing activities.
- Manage assigned territory, agents, and accounts.
- Travel required, expected to be less than 20%.
We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience or equivalent training program. Pursuing or having insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, CRIS, etc. is a plus. You should possess strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a renewal book. Proficiency in software needed to succeed in our department is also required. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential.
