Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant will oversee a variety of accounting responsibilities, including monthly and quarterly financial closes, account reconciliations, accounts payable support, and assistance with corporate matters. This role involves aiding in financial planning and reporting functions, ensuring precision and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), corporate policies, and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), as well as regulatory reporting requirements. The Senior Accountant will engage in complex accounting tasks, prepare financial reports or statements, and develop analyses, accounting studies, and reports of a special or non-recurring nature to inform financial decisions. They will be responsible for written financial statement analysis, presenting analytical results, and reporting on trends and forecasts. The Senior Accountant combines exceptional analytical skills with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles to scrutinize financial reports and forecasts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate accurate accounting reports and present findings.
  • Evaluate financial data and summarize results (GAAP & STAT).
  • Prepare and document asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information. Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions; resolve discrepancies.
  • Analyze and clarify variances to plans, maintaining plans in Oracle.
  • Provide expert accounting services addressing intricate and complex accounting issues.
  • Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual operating and financial statements and conduct analyses of operating results.
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and analyses necessary to respond to special requests from senior management, regulatory agencies, and other departments. Address information and assistance requests from both internal and external sources.
  • Engage in special projects to ensure financial accounting, reporting, and company-wide operational issues are properly identified and addressed promptly.
  • Ensure management and regulatory reports are technically accurate, timely filed, and properly documented.
  • Guarantee compliance with operational risk controls in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field, or equivalent expertise.
  • Experience in annuity, reinsurance, and investment accounting.
  • Experience in financial planning and variance analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Proficient in essential PC software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
