Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Refund Specialist to join our team at Johns Hopkins University. As a Refund Specialist, you will be responsible for the processing of refunds and the resolution of credit balances. This is a critical role that requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Refund Processing: Process refunds and resolve credit balances in a timely and accurate manner.
  • EPIC System Management: Manage the EPIC billing system to ensure accurate payment posting and reconciliation.
  • Communication: Interact with physicians, administration, clinical, accounting, and PBS personnel to resolve credit balance issues.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, including charges, treatment plans, and diagnosis.
  • Procedural Knowledge: Possess comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations in the dissemination of patient Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Technical Knowledge: Have working knowledge of JHU/PBS Billing Applications and PCs and PC applications.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Experience: One year of experience in a medical billing or similar specialty environment required.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Experience: One year of payment posting or refund/credit balance experience preferred.
  • Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of professional fee billing, and knowledge of the EPIC billing System.
