About the Role:

This role involves providing quality patient care to critically ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. You will serve as a patient advocate at all times and develop plans for nursing care in collaboration with the patient, family, and staff from other disciplines. Critical thinking skills are essential for promoting positive clinical outcomes, and ensuring patient education is a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of nursing care and implement policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department">
  • Assess patients on admission within required time frames, making referrals to other disciplines as necessary">
  • Develop nursing care plans for assigned patients on admission, updating them as needed and ensuring they are discussed and developed collaboratively with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team">
  • Able to release, remove, and reapply restraints to patients, ensuring proper positioning and alignment">
  • Document patient admission assessments, reassessments, patient care plans, and other pertinent information in the electronic medical record">
  • Demonstrate safe and effective delivery of patient care, including completing team/patient assignments on time, making effective use of available time, showing initiative, and teamwork">
  • Obtain consents for procedures and blood transfusions, ensuring patients have necessary information to make informed decisions">
  • Receive physician orders, ensure transcription accuracy, and order entry accuracy, following through to ensure orders are carried out">
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to patient changes in condition, such as cardiac rhythm disturbances, respiratory distress, GI bleeding, pulmonary embolism/edema, diabetic ketoacidosis, adverse drug reactions, and blood transfusion reactions">
  • Institute emergency actions, notify physicians, obtain orders, etc.">
  • Complete and document patient admission assessments and reassessments as required according to policy">
  • Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e., physician, supervisor, charge nurse) and record these observations accurately">
  • Administer medications with verbalized knowledge of action, side effects, correct dosages, and route according to ICU policies and procedures">
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize and institute arrhythmia protocol for specified cardiac rhythms (V-tach, V-fib, PVC's, asystole, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree heart block, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter)">
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate nursing care provided to patients">
  • Administer medications using the seven 'rights' of medication administration: right patient, route, time, medication, dose, reason, and documentation">
  • Assist physicians with special tests and procedures, such as thoracentesis, paracentesis, arterial line, and bronchoscopy">
  • Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensure equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner">
  • Participate in orientation of new personnel and performance evaluations of nursing staff">
  • Assist team members in giving care to patients or administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed">
  • Coordinate nursing care of patients scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments">
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients, such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, or sepsis">

We offer a competitive salary of $90,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
