The Colleges: The San Mateo County Community College District encompasses Caada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College, collectively serving approximately 33,000 students annually. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging lecture and laboratory courses in astronomy.
- Operate and maintain the planetarium, CCD camera, and other laboratory equipment.
- Contribute to curriculum development and revisions.
- Provide consultation to students during scheduled office and lab hours.
- Stay current with advancements in technology relevant to the field.
- Participate in division and college committees.
- Fulfill other professional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree or higher in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics; or a Bachelor's degree in physics or astronomy combined with a Master's degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics; or equivalent qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching astronomy at the community college or university level, commitment to maintaining currency in the discipline, and the ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
Conditions of Employment: Selected candidates will be required to submit official transcripts, verifications of prior employment, satisfactory references, and complete a background check prior to employment.
