Job Title: Legal Director

About the Role

The Legal Director will be responsible for providing strategic legal guidance to our business development teams, structuring and negotiating complex financing arrangements, and managing compliance matters related to licensing and registrations. You will also provide regulatory, permitting, and policy guidance to relevant team members and manage engagements with outside counsel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support business development teams in structuring and negotiating financing arrangements for microgrid projects
  • Drive the development of legal documents and contracts related to microgrid projects, including power purchase agreements and energy services agreements
  • Manage compliance matters related to licensing and registrations, industry rules and regulations, and contractual obligations
  • Provide regulatory, permitting, and policy guidance to relevant team members
  • Manage engagements with outside counsel and balance time, efficiency, and expertise with the cost of such engagements
  • Support cross-functional teams by providing legal counsel and advice as needed
  • Propose and implement process improvements related to legal document management and contractual processes
Requirements
  • JD from an accredited law school and barred in at least one US state
  • 7+ years post-JD transactional experience, or 5+ years of transactional experience from a nationally recognized law firm
  • Extensive substantive experience structuring and negotiating debt and tax equity arrangements in the US renewables space
  • Substantive experience with relevant industry contracts, including experience negotiating power purchase agreements and energy services agreements
  • Exceptional business acumen, critical thinking skills, and professional cadence
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and communicate complex legal concepts and strategic goals in a simplified manner to non-lawyers
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, work independently, and operate in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
