Position Summary

The Certified Medication Assistant (CMA) plays a crucial role in delivering resident-centered nursing care and daily living support to assigned residents under the guidance of a licensed nurse. This role requires knowledge of and the ability to provide age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in their care plans.

Responsibilities include assisting with essential health care needs such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs, while also offering psycho-social support and personal care. The CMA may help residents with mobility, utilizing proper techniques and equipment, and provide exercises as needed. Duties also encompass food preparation and ensuring a positive dining experience for residents.

In addition, the CMA administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse, documents care outcomes, and communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse. Responsibilities also include collecting non-invasive specimens, gathering vital signs, and maintaining cleanliness in residents' living areas. The CMA supports wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should be at least 18 years old, with prior clinical or nursing assistant experience being advantageous.

Annual competency testing and continuing education credits are required, with a minimum of 12 hours of education mandated based on state regulations. Relevant certifications must be maintained, and a valid driver's license and auto insurance may be necessary.

State-specific requirements for certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and successful completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course are necessary for this role.
