Description

We are seeking a dedicated individual to perform moderately demanding custodial duties that encompass a variety of cleaning tasks under direct supervision. Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning restrooms and drinking fountains.
  • Scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors.
  • Dusting and polishing furniture, washing windows, woodwork, and fixtures.
  • Shampooing carpets and rugs.
  • Emptying wastebaskets and ashtrays, and disposing of trash.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of grounds and surrounding areas.
  • Replacing burnt-out light bulbs and assisting with minor repairs to equipment and furniture.
  • Keeping stock levels of cleaning supplies and maintaining routine records.
  • Assisting in moving files, heavy desks, and other furniture.
  • Cleaning and removing graffiti from surfaces and using an auger to clear stoppages.

Additionally, the role involves assembling and disassembling various office equipment, such as desks, chairs, and file cabinets, as part of the cleaning duties.

Typical Qualifications

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with experience in domestic or janitorial work. A valid Florida driver's license is required. Candidates must have knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment commonly used in janitorial tasks. The ability to comprehend and follow simple oral and written instructions is essential, as is the capability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment.

Physical requirements include sufficient strength and agility to execute a range of moderately heavy custodial tasks related to the care and limited maintenance of buildings and equipment. Occasional lifting of up to 80 lbs is necessary, along with the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, pushing, and pulling is expected. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.



Supplemental Information

Work Days/Hours :
Coverage is required seven days a week between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with five days per week totaling up to 40 hours. This may include holidays and special events.

Employees receive biweekly pay. The pay range includes a minimum and maximum salary, with initial appointments typically made at the minimum salary of the pay range, although higher salaries may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Annual merit increases of up to 3% are based on effective job performance and are not automatic. Eligible Fire department combat employees may receive annual merit increases of up to 4%.


Benefits:
Group health insurance is provided by the City, covering 100% for full-time employees and 50% for eligible dependents.

Paid leave includes:

Vacation - accrue nine (9) days annually with additional days awarded for longevity; Sick Leave - accrue twelve (12) days annually; Holidays - thirteen (13) days off; Personal Days - two personal days after six months of service.


Pension plan:
Participation in the General Employees' Retirement System is required for all eligible employees.

Each employee contributes a tax-deferred deduction of 10% of their salary to the plan, with the City matching this contribution. The defined benefit pension plan is based on the average of the last three base salary years times 3% times years of service.

If an employee leaves the employ of the City prior to seven (7) year vesting or retirement, their contribution, with interest, is refundable.

Other benefits offered to City employees include cost of living adjustments (when applicable), tuition reimbursement, tax-deferred savings plan, credit union services, direct deposit, sick leave bank, sick leave to vacation conversion, employee assistance program, Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP), Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Account (VEBA), and a four-day work week for certain positions.

Part-time employees are not eligible for benefits, and benefits may vary depending on bargaining units.
