This position is designed for a proactive intermediate-level cybersecurity analyst who will engage with security engineering, operational, and development teams. The primary responsibilities include assisting in the formulation and upkeep of various Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs), contributing to System Security Plans (SSP) and related documentation across diverse environments, analyzing scan results, and offering insights for vulnerability remediation or mitigations. This role is integral to ongoing continuous monitoring efforts on a daily, quarterly, or annual basis. Furthermore, the analyst will support security evaluations (e.g., FedRAMP, FISMA, HIPAA, SOC) by aiding in the collection of necessary evidence. A solid grasp of vulnerability management processes, including scans and assessment findings, is crucial for maintaining a secure operational posture.
Responsibilities of the Security Analyst include Continuous Monitoring Support
for various environments, which may involve developing metrics and trends, analyzing scan outcomes, and assisting with the authorization processes for FedRAMP, FISMA, IRAP, etc. This role is essential in the continuous monitoring framework, providing informed recommendations on remediation and mitigation strategies, as well as developing relevant processes and procedures. Effective communication between security, engineering, development, and operations teams is vital, along with the ability to interpret and document data collection results. Key deliverables for success will encompass the maintenance of various continuous monitoring activities (e.g., scan execution, review and analysis, POAM maintenance), ensuring that processes and procedures are current and adhered to, and providing management with updates on the security posture of the environment.
In summary, this position requires the ability to execute the following tasks:
- Collect information, comprehend architecture diagrams, and implement scan configurations through collaboration with security engineering, operations, and development teams.
- Create security documentation, including but not limited to continuous monitoring plans, procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Analyze various scans for applications, operating systems, and containers, ensuring accuracy.
- Review and maintain POAMs both manually and through automated tools.
- Ensure regular updates and reviews of all POAM inputs, including vendor and operational dependencies.
- Understand the objectives of FedRAMP/FISMA security controls and communicate as necessary.
- Assist with FedRAMP/StateRAMP or FISMA authorizations, including preparation of the Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) and operations teams through mock interviews, documentation updates, and support for FedRAMP PMO/Agency/CISO requests.
- Support ITAR/EAR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, ISO, and SOC assessments to achieve and maintain certifications as required.
- Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud.
- Familiarity with FedRAMP and/or other authorization processes and the NIST risk management framework.
- Experience in developing, assessing, and implementing information security architectures, technologies, standards, and practices to secure applications and IT systems is desirable.
- Proficiency in vulnerability management, including analysis of application, operating system, and container scans.
- Development of security documentation such as continuous monitoring plans, policies, and procedures based on NIST SP security controls and FedRAMP continuous monitoring guidelines.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating flexibility and self-motivation while communicating effectively with other teams in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written) with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of IT and business management.
- Experience in drafting or executing system security documentation, authorization to operate packages, POA&Ms, and policies.
- Experience in reviewing, editing, and writing technical documents.
- Skill in preparing and delivering written and oral presentations on complex technical subjects.
- Experience using ticketing systems such as JIRA.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- U.S. Person status.
- Professional industry certifications in relevant areas are preferred.
