Job Summary

The Operations Geologist plays a crucial role in planning, coordinating, and monitoring geologic and geosteering activities for horizontal drilling rigs in Continental Resources' assets. This position requires collaboration with exploration and geophysical teams to prepare for future development and exploration projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed geological prognoses for permitting and drilling of horizontal wells.
  • Collaborate with exploration and development geologists to support asset teams with correlations, mapping, and prospecting.
  • Work with geophysical staff to incorporate seismic data into well planning, hazard mitigation, and risk assessment.
  • Geosteer horizontal wells using StarSteer or similar software, incorporating all available data for efficient decision-making.
  • Oversee and communicate with mud loggers and remote geosteering teams.
  • Communicate and collaborate with drilling engineering and directional drilling teams.
  • Conduct post-drill assessments of hazards and learnings to improve operational efficiency and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Geoscience or Earth Sciences from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent geosteering experience
  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent experience with an active exploration and production company preferred
  • Proficient using StarSteer and GeoGraphix geologic software
  • Master's Degree from an accredited university or college in Geology and/or Geophysics, Physics or Mathematics
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
