About the Role

The Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free-standing Emergency Departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively patrol campus and monitor activity in and around buildings and grounds.
  • Respond appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
  • Perform camera surveillance and maintain department logs and records.
  • Use computer skills for documentation of daily activities.
  • Conduct security investigations and evaluate situations.
  • Take appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.
Requirements
  • High School Grad or Equivalent (Required)
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS)
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • De-escalation and Physical Intervention training successfully completed within 180 days of hire
  • Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred
