Job Title: Substitute Nurse

Arlington ISD is seeking a qualified Substitute Nurse to provide health services to students on a substitute basis.

Job Summary:

The Substitute Nurse will implement district health services programs to meet the needs of the student population on assigned campuses. The ideal candidate will provide health services, promote health and safety education, and ensure a healthy school environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct care using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols.
  • Assess student problems, communicate with parents, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow-up as needed.
  • Notify parents of accidents or illnesses and secure emergency medical care as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students and maintain student advocacy.
  • Ensure medications are administered according to district policy and procedures.
  • Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs.
  • May make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary.
  • Participate in development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups.
  • Collaborate closely with campus principal and other staff to ensure a healthy school environment.
  • Advise campus administration in crisis or emergency situations and participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Administer state law regarding screening, immunizations, and communicable diseases.
  • Record and maintain health information in a confidential and timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • Valid CPR certification within the past 2 years
  • Valid Vision, Hearing, Acanthosis Nigricans, and Spinal Screening certification within the last 5 years
  • At least 3 years' experience in nursing
Additional Information:

This is an as-needed position, and the successful candidate will be required to work on a substitute basis.
