Job Summary:

As a Switchman-Victoria, TX, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains and rail cars in a yard. This involves assembling trains, switching railroad cars, and performing various duties to maintain the operation of locomotives and rail cars.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform safety inspections of locomotives and rail cars
• Work with Locomotive Engineers to add fuel, water, oil, and sand to locomotives
• Make repairs or adjustments to equipment to maintain operation of locomotives and rail cars
• Uncouple loaded cars at their destination or uncouple and distribute empty cars to siding or loading areas
• Move switches to route cars and signal Locomotive Engineers to start or stop cars
• Operate rail car handbrakes and rail track switches
• Open and close doors or hatches on rail cars
• Open or close chute gates or position rail cars on track to load or unload cars

Requirements:

• High degree of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality
• Safety training/certification as required by customers and TGS
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to make quick and sound judgments and manual dexterity
• Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude
• Good hearing and vision

Working Conditions:

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, and other hazardous conditions. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.
