Job Overview

Magic Spoon is revolutionizing the breakfast cereal industry with its high-protein, low-carb, and delicious flavors. As a Senior Food Scientist, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development of our exciting pipeline of projects.

This is a full-time, in-person/hybrid role based in Tribeca, NYC, with some additional travel required. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing ingredients and formulas, creating technical documents, and coordinating benchtop sample requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage ingredients and formulas in nutrition software
  • Be responsible for all calculations for packaging
  • Be responsible for prototyping, formulation, pilot production, and scale-up to plant implementation of innovation and renovation projects
  • Create technical documents, specifications, and cook preps
  • Manage lab inventory needed for prototypes and samples
  • Manage internal sensory testing, including analysis of results and recommendations for next steps
  • Coordinate benchtop sample requests to ensure samples and prototypes are completed in a timely and efficient manner

Requirements:

  • Possess strong product development skills in ingredient functionality, material selection, and formulation to understand effects on finished product performance
  • A BS or MS degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related degree
  • At least 5 years of relevant concept-to-launch experience in formulation, start-up, and continuous improvement or optimization projects
  • Previous experience with ESHA/Genesis or ProductVision
  • Ability to build strong, trusted working relationships and rapport at all levels and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with the activities in Marketing, Market Research, Legal/Regulatory, QA, and Manufacturing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel up to 35%
