Medical Assistant

At Northeastern Rural Health Clinics, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the efficient operation of our clinic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support: Greet and prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, recording medical history, and ensuring the patient is comfortable. Assist healthcare providers during exams and procedures, including setting up equipment, preparing examination rooms, and ensuring that all necessary supplies are available. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, such as blood, urine, or throat swabs, for testing according to standard procedures. Administer vaccines, injections, and medications as directed by the provider, following appropriate protocols. Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and other minor procedures as needed. Provide patients with educational materials and instructions as directed by the provider, including medication usage, follow-up care, and lifestyle modifications.
- Administrative Duties: Schedule patient appointments, including follow-up visits and referrals to specialists. Accurately document patient information, clinical findings, and care provided in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Assist with billing and coding processes to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for services provided. Answer incoming calls, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to providers as necessary. Monitor and restock medical supplies in exam rooms and clinical areas.
- Patient Care Coordination: Coordinate referrals to specialists or other healthcare providers, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete. Assist in tracking and following up on patient care plans, including lab results, imaging studies, and treatment recommendations.
- Compliance and Safety: Adhere to infection control protocols and procedures, including proper hand hygiene, use of PPE, and sterilization of equipment. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and FQHC policies. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to maintain certification and stay current with medical assisting practices. Work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care and support the mission of the FQHC.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assistant program or certified based on experience. Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by a recognized certifying body (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NHA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience: Previous experience in an outpatient clinic or similar healthcare setting is preferred. Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, particularly eClinicalWorks, is desirable.
- Skills: Strong clinical skills, including the ability to perform injections, phlebotomy, and basic wound care. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with diverse patient populations.
- Professionalism: Commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to all patients. Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in all interactions with patients, families, and team members. Adherence to ethical standards and FQHC policies.
Working Conditions:
