Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Specialist to join our team at TransForce. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of students and delivery of materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive and maintain school buses and other transportation vehicles to transport students to and from school and educational field trips.
  • Conduct daily inspections, perform preventive maintenance activities, and clean assigned vehicles.
  • Maintain daily automotive vehicle reports to show destination and time of arrival and departure for each student.
  • Report all accidents and vehicular defects.
  • Recommend changes to preplanned routes and modify or select alternate routes to destinations affected by detours or unusual traffic conditions.
  • Drive vehicles to and from repair shops.
  • Deliver supplies, transit tickets, and mail.
  • Inspect buses and other transportation vehicles to ensure that preventive maintenance and service checks have been performed.
  • Issue changes in vehicular and bus routes as directed by the supervisor.
  • Review completed daily work sheets for accuracy, neatness, and correct pupil information.
  • Provide site observations for contractual and city bus drivers.
  • Monitor bus routes to ensure safe, timely, and dependable delivery of service.
  • Conduct emergency school bus evacuation drills at various schools.
  • Review and correct descriptions of bus routes.
  • Conduct audits of bus routes to ensure the appropriateness of requests for payment by contractors.
  • Monitor the activities of school bus drivers to ensure the maintenance of valid driver's licenses, driving records, and driver training certificates.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Successful completion of a COMAR regulated training program approved by BCPSS for school bus drivers may be substituted for the experience requirement.
  • Maryland Class A or B Commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license, with passenger and school bus endorsements, and no moving violations.
  • Must pass BCPSS road and safety tests.
  • Knowledge of Maryland vehicle operation codes, standards, and laws.
  • Knowledge of procedures to be followed in the event of accidents or emergencies.
  • Ability to operate school buses with manual and automatic transmissions and air brake endorsement.
  • Ability to read street signs and maps.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain records and complete routine report forms.
  • Ability to determine automotive malfunctions and perform routine automotive preventive maintenance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
