Role Overview: The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and enhancing all aspects of production and receiving operations to achieve outstanding safety and productivity benchmarks. This role involves coaching, training, and documenting best practices through ongoing improvement initiatives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enhance operational systems, processes, and policies to support departmental and organizational objectives.
- Lead safety initiatives to uphold and elevate safety standards and expectations.
- Train and mentor direct reports on fundamental principles and company conduct to foster a quality-focused work environment.
- Boost the effectiveness and efficiency of support services through continuous improvements and enhanced communication between internal and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate daily discussions with production teams regarding performance, process enhancements, safety, and quality metrics.
- Contribute significantly to long-term strategic planning, focusing on operational excellence.
- Deliver training to direct reports to ensure adherence to established standards.
- Implement and maintain 5S practices to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient workplace.
- Propose and execute continuous improvement strategies utilizing lean manufacturing principles, including standard work and elimination of non-value-added activities.
- Analyze data and assess outcomes to identify optimal solutions and resolve issues.
- Manage labor costs effectively to meet production needs while achieving financial targets.
- Coordinate production planning and expedite processes to ensure 100% service levels while collaborating with distribution and customer service.
- Investigate and address customer complaints to identify root causes.
- Organize skilled labor to optimize training, minimize machine downtime, and maximize operational efficiency.
- Determine staffing needs and oversee the hiring and training of new personnel.
- Share best practices across all departments.
- Establish, plan, and monitor departmental budgets and forecasts.
- Promote a collaborative atmosphere among all employees and departments.
- Identify and address training needs through structured training plans.
- Collaborate closely with EHS, Marketing, Quality, HR, and Maintenance on new products, processes, and work cells.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, polymers, or a related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
- Proven leadership and vision in managing teams and significant projects.
- Demonstrated ability to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency while reducing costs.
- Experience in budget development and oversight.
- Strong background in lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to operate at a plant manager level.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Leadership skills to foster teamwork across shifts and departments.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and quick to learn new technologies.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- High energy, positive attitude, and demeanor.
- Familiarity with Basic Principles/Core Values and effective communication skills.
- Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
- Experience in manufacturing building products, particularly siding, is advantageous.
