Job Summary

The City of Naples, FL is seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Code Examiner to join our team. As a key member of our building department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough reviews of commercial and residential building plans and specifications for compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Perform complex inspections and enforcement of building codes, ordinances, and regulations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local codes and standards.
  • Investigate reported complaints of defective projects and provide technical assistance and guidance to City inspectors, builders, owners, contractors, and architects.
  • Generate, maintain, and review records, logs, and reports of inspections performed, including conditions found, actions taken, and recommendations made for further action.
  • Prepare building construction reports and training reports to maintain education data of City inspection personnel.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in building construction, engineering, architecture, or fire administration.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in code enforcement and/or construction inspection activities in at least one of the critical disciplines, i.e., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire.
  • Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight pounds.
  • Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
Working Conditions

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, odors, dust, wetness, humidity, fumes, temperature, and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and toxic/poisonous agents when conducting inspection activities.
