Job Overview

The Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for executing phlebotomy tasks, which encompass obtaining blood samples by assessing test requests, verifying patient identification, and performing venipunctures and fingersticks. This role also involves documenting collection details and alerting healthcare providers of any abnormal findings. Additionally, the position entails various clerical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts phlebotomy procedures in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Accurately identifies patients and ensures proper labeling of specimen containers.
  • Organizes daily tasks to guarantee timely and precise completion of workload.
  • Confirms that all necessary information is included on the requisition forms.
  • Maintains high standards of specimen integrity.
  • Operates designated equipment, performs necessary maintenance, and adheres to safety protocols as instructed. Ensures equipment meets departmental standards.
  • Serves as a point of contact, welcoming patients and managing phone inquiries in the laboratory.
  • Administers EKGs following established procedures.
  • Adapts to changes in assignments and performs tasks of similar skill and responsibility as required. May also undertake higher-level responsibilities in preparation for advancement and may be asked to perform lower-level tasks when departmental workload necessitates.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
