Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Imaging Technologist at CAMC Health System, you will be accountable for the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures as required by the Medical Staff in the diagnosis and/or treatment of patient illness.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures, ensuring accurate and high-quality images.
  • Corroborate patient clinical history, prepare patients for procedures, and provide physical and psychological support during imaging procedures.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • Assume responsibility for the provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures, providing patient education and support.
  • Practice aseptic technique and perform venipunctures as necessary.
  • Prepare, identify, and administer contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner, in accordance with state statute and institutional policy.
  • Verify informed consent for and assist a licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic procedures and specialized interventional radiography procedures.
  • Initiate basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provide practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform safety, warm-up, and quality control checks for all imaging rooms and equipment, per established policy and procedure.
  • Participate in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan, and may be responsible for specific quality control duties in the assigned area.
  • Maintain records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies for the assigned area, as necessary, and provide input for equipment purchase and supply decisions.
  • Maintain knowledge of and observe Universal precautions.
  • Pursue appropriate continuing education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge: The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.

Specifically, the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement: Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
