Key Responsibilities:

As a vital member of the Retail Banking Team, the Mortgage Consultant is responsible for originating mortgage loans to achieve both individual and departmental production targets. This role requires adherence to bank policies, investor standards, and regulatory guidelines, with a strong focus on delivering outstanding customer service.

  • Identify and solicit quality loan applications that align with the current product offerings.
  • Educate customers about the bank's loan programs, underwriting criteria, and relevant government regulations.
  • Arrange meetings that accommodate customer needs, whether at the bank or a convenient location.
  • Conduct thorough interviews with applicants to gather and assess essential information regarding their financial situation.
  • Complete loan applications and pre-processing tasks promptly to ensure compliance with regulatory timelines.
  • Cross-sell additional bank products and services by referring customers to appropriate departments.
  • Communicate complex loan decisions to applicants while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Develop new business opportunities through continuous marketing efforts to satisfied customers and local professionals.
  • Represent the bank at community events and organizations to foster business relationships.
  • Stay informed about market trends and changes in mortgage regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing training and community outreach programs.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service by maintaining a comprehensive understanding of lending policies and regulations.
  • Adhere to established operating procedures to support regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee the loan file throughout the processing and closing stages.
  • Act as the primary contact for customers throughout the loan application process.
  • Respond to inquiries related to mortgage lending and assist other bank personnel as needed.
  • Complete annual training on federal and state regulations and participate in in-house training sessions.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant laws and internal policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Specialized training in banking and lending.
  • Sales training experience.
  • Strong reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills and interpersonal communication.
  • Knowledge of bank operating policies affecting consumer services.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the bank's mortgage and home equity products.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in real estate lending, including 2 years in a sales role.
  • National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration is required.
