Job Summary:

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner at Adventist Health, you will play a vital role in providing basic and critical respiratory care services to adult and geriatric patients. This position requires the ability to work independently and supervise others, as delegated. You will be responsible for administering aerosol and oxygen therapy, drawing arterial blood gases, and providing care to ventilator patients. Additionally, you will assist in department record keeping, operation, and training of new employees.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess and document the appropriateness of prescribed therapy for patients receiving respiratory care services.
  • Administer aerosol and oxygen therapy, while maintaining charts.
  • Draw arterial blood gases per policy and physician order.
  • Provide care to ventilator patients.
  • Assist in department record keeping and operation, as well as participation in training and supervision of new employees.
  • Document care given; maintain records of treatment given; generate necessary documents for charges or record keeping.
  • Assist in the instruction of nursing personnel in surveillance of patient and equipment after initial installation.
  • Perform pulmonary function tests, drainage procedures, and provide additional patient care regarding cardio respiratory disease.
  • Provide suggestions regarding the patients' treatment and pulmonary progress.
  • Provide assistance in cardio respiratory rehabilitation.
  • Provide instruction to patients and family in the nature of cardio respiratory disease and its ramifications.
  • Makes rounds to check all respiratory therapy equipment in use or on standby in patient areas.
  • Ensures completion of the initial ventilator bundle orders upon initiation of mechanical ventilation.
  • Ensures compliance of VAP bundle for all patients receiving mechanical ventilation.
  • Identifies measurable and reasonable outcomes while using appropriate therapy interventions to resolve patient needs.
  • Updates and communicates the diagnosis throughout the patient's stay based on patient's changing condition and disease status.
  • Assists with maintenance and processing of equipment and products used in providing respiratory therapy services.
  • Keeps equipment clean and ready for its next use.
  • Assists physicians with bronchoscopies and special procedures.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent: Preferred
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification: Preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification: Required in ICU and/or ED
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS OR HS-PALS OR RQIPALS) certification: Preferred
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) certification: Preferred
  • National Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT): Required
  • Facility Specific License/Certifications: Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP): Required
