Job Overview

Position Summary:

A Systems Engineer II plays a crucial role in the design, execution, and oversight of IT systems infrastructure. This role places a strong emphasis on cybersecurity evaluation and remediation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and adhere to IT-related policies and procedures.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for system defects, both hardware and software.
  • Administer Windows Active Directory, Group Policies, and Certificate Services.
  • Oversee network storage solutions (SAN/NAS).
  • Troubleshoot system and network issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including system backups, error log reviews, and database integrity checks.
  • Establish and enforce security policies and standards.
  • Ensure adherence to industry regulations and best practices.
  • Conduct security and risk assessments.
  • Provide advanced security training to staff.
  • Assist with special projects and additional tasks as required.

Core Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server and PC Operating Systems.
  • Proficient in Linux Operating Systems.
  • Design, implement, and maintain both physical and virtual IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and security devices.
  • Ability to create and utilize administrative scripts effectively.
  • Develop and implement cybersecurity policies and procedures to mitigate risks.
  • Apply STIGS (Security Technical Implementation Guides) to enhance cybersecurity measures.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments using tools like Nessus and address identified issues promptly.
  • Exhibit strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Utilize technical information in operational and maintenance tasks.
  • Stay updated on the latest security trends, threats, and best practices.
  • Mentor junior team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of combined experience in systems administration and cybersecurity.
  • Required certifications:
  1. CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification.
  • Additional certifications are advantageous: A+, Network+, MCP, MCSA, CCNA, SSCP, CISA.
  • Related military training and/or experience is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills.
