Job Title: NICU Registered Nurse - Day/Night Shift
We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at American Family Children's Hospital in Madison, WI. As a NICU Registered Nurse, you will provide care for critically ill newborns, infants, and their families across the continuum of care, from admission to discharge.
Responsibilities:
- Provide care for infants requiring the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, including a wide variety of medical and surgical complexities.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
- Monitor and maintain accurate records of patient progress and communicate effectively with families and healthcare providers.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and advancements in NICU care.
Requirements:
- Level 4 NICU experience required, or level III that included some surgical and trach vent management.
- Experience with post-op patients, g-tubes, trach/vents, various modes of invasive/noninvasive ventilation.
- Traveler must have completed two years in an acute care setting in addition to at least one year in a level IV NICU or level III NICU meeting above requirements.
- Traveler must have successfully completed 13 week travel assignment.
Licensure and Certification:
- Traveler must have Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or compact license from their permanent address state.
- BLS must be certified through American Heart Association ONLY.
- PALS - must be certified through American Heart Associate ONLY.
- NRP.
Education:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
References:
- Needs 2 references from recent work environment/assignments (supervisor or manager only).
Telemetry:
- Traveler must have Basic Arrhythmia experience. Traveler will be required to pass UW Health Telemetry test prior to being cleared to start (not for clinic positions).
Floating:
- Travelers are the first to float to floors working with children up to 1 year of age and/or based on the traveler's competency skills/experience.

Quick Start Shifts:
36 hrs/week, Day/Night, 12 hr shifts per week with 2-3 weekends in each 6 week schedule. Flexibility is required per operational needs of department.

***Greetings Welcome to UW Hospital. Basic Arrhythmia competency is an RN requirement here.
You will be taking a 20 strip exam to demonstrate that competency and must get an 80% on the test and correctly identify our 4 lethal rhythms (Asystole, V-Tach, V-fib, and 3rd Degree AV Block)
***All agency travelers must demonstrate competency in interpretation of cardiac rhythms before your orientation begins. Previous completion of PALS, ACLS, etc. is not acceptable as a demonstration of this competency. Instead, you will be expected to satisfactorily complete a 20 question test which consists of multiple choice questions and write-in rhythm identification. You must pass with an overall score of 80% and correctly identify 100% of the 4 life-threatening rhythms for your patient population (adult or peds). If there are any questions, please refer to earlier communication from UWHC to your agency.***
