Job Title: Lead Camp Counselor Seasonal

City of Lake Wales is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Camp Counselor Seasonal to join our team. As a key member of our camp operations team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing camp site and activities for our seasonal camp programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and organize all aspects of daily camp operation for assigned site.
  • Assist in the training, supervision, and evaluation of camp counselors and volunteers.
  • Assign and direct work for staff, ensuring daily curriculum is followed.
  • Prepare and coordinate daily curriculum, including crafts, sports, games, drama, nature awareness, field trips, speakers, and other socialization activities.
  • Implement age and developmentally appropriate activities, maintaining discipline and good conduct among participants.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment, reporting maintenance needs.
  • Provide excellent customer service, greeting participants and visitors, and distributing accurate information regarding trips and activities.
  • Maintain open and positive communication with staff, campers, parents, and school sites.
  • Ensure all camper accounts are paid in full prior to attending camp.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records, including staff hours, daily attendance, participant emergency information, accident/injury reports, behavior reports, newsletters, permission slips, and medication logs.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment, submitting supply needs in advance.
  • Enforce rules and regulations to ensure safety of participants.
  • Maintain neatness and cleanliness of activity areas.
  • Administer basic first aid as needed.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year of recreation experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of recreation equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.
  • Skilled in the operation of tools and equipment, First Aid, and CPR.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Special Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Two years' experience working in recreation, camp, or child care setting.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 1 month of hire: CPR/AED/First Aid certifications.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
