The main objective of the Culinary Service Associate role is to assist in the food service activities dedicated to serving Veterans. Responsibilities are carried out in various areas, including meal preparation, dishwashing, inventory management, and food serving.

DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority.

Key Responsibilities

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

• Organizing and dismantling assigned workstations with the necessary supplies and food items.

• Serving food items in standard portions using appropriate utensils and dishware.

• Selecting and arranging correct items on patient trays.

• Determining suitable food items for common dietary needs.

• Noticing discrepancies between prescribed diets and menu items.

• Setting up dining tables for service, placing food and beverages, and replenishing items as needed.

• Delivering meal trays to patients' bedsides.

• Communicating patients' feedback and concerns to supervisors or dietitians.

• Assisting cooks in food preparation, including weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients per standardized recipes.

• Preparing fresh fruits, salads, dressings, sandwich fillings, and simple desserts.

• Reading and interpreting regular or modified menus and diet cards.

• Conducting thorough cleaning tasks in food service areas.

• Performing additional duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Various shifts including mornings and evenings, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

EXPERIENCE: While a specific length of training and experience is not mandated, candidates must demonstrate sufficient training or experience that reflects their ability to perform the duties of this position.

Physical Requirements: Candidates may need to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy cooking utensils and pushing carts.

Working Conditions: The role is conducted in kitchen environments where heat and humidity are prevalent, and safety precautions are necessary due to potential hazards.
