Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Waste Collection Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient collection of solid waste and recyclable materials from customer premises and curbside locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and load solid waste and recyclable materials into collection vehicles
  • Sort recyclables and deposit materials into designated compartments
  • Assist drivers in safe vehicle operation, including backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces
  • Operate equipment on trucks to compact trash and materials
  • Audit vehicles for proper equipment and report any issues to supervisors
  • Identify and remove prohibited waste items and notify drivers
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment
  • Work closely with supervisors to improve routing efficiencies and maintain quality standards
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining vehicles and equipment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent desired
  • One to three months of related experience or training preferred
  • Valid driver's license not required, but may be beneficial
  • Ability to meet safety-sensitive function criteria according to Company standards

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision
  • Ability to operate equipment and perform physical tasks in an outdoor environment

Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, and extreme weather conditions
  • Work in outdoor environment up to 100% of the time
  • Occasionally work in high-pitched places and motor vehicle traffic conditions
