Role Overview

  • Equipment Decontamination: Ensure all echocardiography equipment is thoroughly cleaned, including transducer and TEE cleaning, while adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Emergency Response: Act promptly to emergency callbacks, following departmental guidelines to ensure timely assistance.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Responsible for the upkeep and troubleshooting of echocardiography devices, notifying clinical engineering and management of any technical issues. Minor calibration tasks will also be performed as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Engage in the department's Continuous Performance Improvement initiatives, evaluating personal and peer performance in a constructive manner.
  • Patient Care: Conduct transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), ensuring all necessary views are captured for optimal diagnostic results.
  • Preliminary Reporting: Prepare images and data for initial reports in the designated cardiology systems prior to physician review.
  • Patient Safety: Maintain high standards of patient safety by inspecting TEE probes, confirming leakage tests, and ensuring proper patient positioning during procedures.
  • Data Recording: Accurately document all required measurements in both 2-D and M-mode, as well as advanced measurements according to established protocols.
  • Stress Echocardiograms: Efficiently obtain all necessary views during stress echocardiograms, including post-exercise images within a specified timeframe.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of a CAAHEP accredited echocardiography program with a minimum of 800 clinical hours is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as an echo sonographer is preferred.
  • Certification in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMEDSON), Registry for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (RDCS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required.
