POSITION OVERVIEW

Oversee the formulation, execution, and supervision of comprehensive environmental initiatives across the facility. Deliver environmental guidance and assist operational teams with various challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities may encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Direct the establishment of facility-wide environmental strategies aimed at achieving:
    • Top-tier compliance and operational excellence within the industry.
    • Ongoing adherence to diverse governmental and corporate environmental standards.
  • Offer technical and regulatory insights to process engineering and capital initiatives under management oversight.
  • Coordinate and manage the facility's compliance efforts regarding fugitive emissions monitoring, waste management, and stormwater regulations.
  • Assist in defining and reaching Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) objectives while ensuring accurate HSE protocols are maintained.
  • Evaluate and adopt industry-leading HSE practices to enhance performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Track trends and changes in the processing industry's HSE landscape, including OSHA and EPA/TCEQ activities. Lead benchmarking of HSE practices with other Westlake facilities and recommend enhancements to the HSE Manager.
  • Guide the creation and upkeep of HSE programs for the Westlake-Longview facility, including proactive management systems and strategic planning to anticipate future compliance challenges.
  • Engage in professional associations and interplant discussions to maintain a robust network supporting Westlake Longview HSE initiatives.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of federal and state HSE regulations.
  • Act as the primary contact for auditors and inspectors during compliance evaluations.
  • Conduct internal facility inspections and communicate findings to management for corrective actions.
  • Develop training materials and deliver training sessions on HSE standards.
  • Ensure quality control through peer reviews of reports and documents produced by the HS&E team.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotations for HSE matters.
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned by the HSE Manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (chemical or mechanical) or a related discipline is essential.
  • A minimum of 8 years of pertinent HSE experience in a chemical, petrochemical, or refinery setting is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role is primarily conducted in an office or control room environment, necessitating regular attendance and physical presence. The employee will frequently sit, stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks. Occasionally, the employee may need to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Regular lifting of up to 5 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds is expected. Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The role also requires responsiveness to audible emergency alarms within the facility and the ability to evacuate when necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate, primarily within an office setting. Some tasks may occur in operational areas, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hearing protection. Exposure to outdoor elements may occur, and the role may involve the use of stairs and elevators. Occasional travel, including air and auto travel, may be required.
