Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to join our team at the Keene Family YMCA. As a Lifeguard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our members and participants in our Aquatics Center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, scanning the pool from side to side and regularly walking around to check blind spots, steam room, and sauna.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and the safe-in-six model.
  • Build personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests, exemplifying the Y's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the four-character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and for the duration of the shift.
  • Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training.
Requirements
  • Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/ARC standards.
