Prepress Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Prepress Technician to join our team at American Printing Company. As a key member of our prepress department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient production of digital plates and digital proofs for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Verify job tickets and supplied samples to ensure all necessary instructions are correct and present
• Review customer-supplied documents to determine necessary adjustments
• Ensure correct layout of imposed pages within press, bindery, and paper limitations
• Process variable data files and customer files, including layouts, fonts, and images
• Submit final proofs for customer review and approval, consulting with the Project Manager as needed
• Implement quality control measures to ensure all manufacturing procedures are followed
• Perform periodic equipment adjustments, such as calibration and cleaning
• Organize files (electronic and paper) in the proper folders for easy archival of jobs
• Advance technical knowledge and provide instruction to customers on prepress software and their uses
• Cross-train on all job functions within pre-press, including page processing, imposition, variable data, proofing, platemaking
• Comply with all safety procedures and good housekeeping requirements

Requirements:

• High school diploma/equivalency required, trade/vocational school preferred
• Minimum 2 years experience in prepress and/or a graphic arts related position
• Experience in the Print Industry preferred
• Supervisory experience a plus
• Knowledge of color management a plus
• Knowledge of e-commerce a plus
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic, use a ruler, and distinguish points/picas
• Strong knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
• Ability to distinguish colors
• Knowledge of printing papers, characteristics, and uses
• Knowledge of offset printing process, including finishing techniques
• Ability to apply problem-solving in a team atmosphere and individually
• Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and schedules
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• PC and MAC computer competency
• Knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Acrobat/Photoshop/Illustrator
• Knowledge of Pitstop Professional, Kodak Prinergy, and Preps a plus
• Frequent lifting 15-20 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds
