The CTS Instructor position is hands-on, requiring the candidate to provide high-quality training in both classroom and simulation environments. The instructor will engage with a diverse group of students, including both developing air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates that air traffic control specialists maintain a high standard of safety and professionalism. A well-trained workforce is essential for achieving this goal, as the FAA oversees a large number of air traffic controllers managing thousands of aircraft daily.
To fulfill the FAA's training requirements, the agency relies on contractor-provided instructional services across various facilities. The contractor's responsibilities encompass all aspects of training and program support necessary to prepare students for certification as air traffic controllers. SMART1 Management Solutions is committed to delivering comprehensive training services tailored to the needs of all ATC facilities.
Essential Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, with the capability to obtain and sustain a Public Trust clearance.
- The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a FAA CPC, actively controlling live air traffic, or have recent experience as a contract instructor within an FAA facility. This experience should align with the type and level of ATC facility.
The successful applicant will exhibit strong technical proficiency with current ATC automation, simulation systems, and operational procedures. Responsibilities will include mentoring students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO), as well as contributing to curriculum design and development. The candidate must also demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities.
Educational Requirements:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification is mandatory, along with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) at an ARTCC is preferred but not essential.
- Operational experience with ATC simulators, including scenario design for various simulation platforms, is advantageous.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure training services meet the local facility's needs and align with the FAA's overarching Air Traffic Control mission is highly desirable.
- Proven teaching abilities, effective classroom management techniques, and a commitment to continuous improvement in student outcomes are essential.
