Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in the cardio-pulmonary system, administering medications, performing therapeutic modalities, and diagnostic testing. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work independently, and respond to emergency situations with ease.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform respiratory care to evaluate and treat patients, following established protocols.
  • Deliver medications via aerosol and metered dose inhalers, ensuring accurate dosing and patient safety.
  • Respond to all Rapid Responses, arrest, or STAT situations, maintaining artificial airways, and respiration and cardiac compressions.
  • Set up and maintain oxygen equipment according to protocol, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Additional Duties
  • Manage the physiological and mechanical aspects of patients requiring life support.
  • Wean patients off ventilators, ensuring a smooth transition to independent breathing.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy and airway clearance, promoting patient comfort and respiratory health.
  • Assess patients to recommend appropriate therapy, utilizing critical thinking and clinical expertise.
  • Perform special procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic reasons, staying up-to-date with the latest medical advancements.
  • Provide supplemental oxygen throughout the medical center, maintaining and changing equipment as needed.
  • Maintain inpatient charts and clarify physician orders for the department, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Participate in chart auditing and quality assurance programs, contributing to the improvement of patient care.
  • Provide continuing education for the department, staff members, and Respiratory Students, sharing expertise and best practices.
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees, promoting a smooth transition to the team.
Certifications and Licensures

Respiratory Therapist license required. Associates Degree in a related field is also necessary.

Physical and Mental Requirements

This role requires exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief, and death. The ideal candidate must be able to wear personal protective equipment, move freely about the facility, and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
