Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Scribe to join our team at US Oncology Network-wide Career Opportunities. As a Medical Scribe, you will work closely with physicians to document patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in a timely and accurate manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accompany physicians into exam rooms and document patient information, medical history, and treatment plans in real-time.
- Transcribe medical decision-making and create polished patient encounter notes.
- Update electronic medical records, including problem lists and medication lists.
- Prepare new patient information for progress notes and update problem lists as applicable.
- Provide patient education and instruction as directed by physicians.
- Initiate patient phone calls as directed by physicians.
- Conduct reviews of online research as requested by physicians.
- Participate in morning huddles with clinical teams.
- Transcribe procedure notes per physician preference.
- Navigate electronic medical records, PACS, and hospital portals.
Requirements:
- Personable and effective at multitasking with excellent customer service skills.
- High regard for excellent computer skills, including Microsoft applications and iKnowMed or Centricity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with physicians and medical assistants.
- Typing proficiency of 60 words per minute desirable.
- Current CPR certification a plus.
- Bachelor's Degree or other healthcare-related coursework, including anatomy, physiology, and/or medical terminology preferred.
- Minimum one year of applicable experience or graduate from a Scribe training program.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a calculator, telephone, copier, and other such office equipment. Requires ability to extend wrists/arms for up to eight hours per day. Substantial repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and receiving information from dictation equipment. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time. Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent interaction with staff and physicians.
