The Life Skills Clinic is a part of the Division of Occupational Therapy at the University of Utah.

The pediatric clinic sees clients from birth through adolescence, with a variety of diagnoses.

We also partner with private schools, charter schools, local districts, community clinics, and behavioral health organizations to provide services to clients in their natural setting.

Responsibilities
  1. Establishes treatment goals based on the evaluation and reason for the referral of occupational disruption, including functional and component based tests of neuromuscular components of movement and stability, sensation, ADLs, perception, cognition, avocational and prevocational abilities, developmental, feeding, play, motor function, body mechanics, and other tests appropriate for the patient and the profession.
  2. Administers therapy according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of practice of occupational therapy.
  3. Educates the patient and caregiver about the goals of the occupational therapy program, methods of accomplishing goals, how to perform the home program and injury prevention.
  4. Recommends adaptive equipment, completes the equipment justification forms and arranges for the delivery of the equipment if needed.
  5. Re-evaluates patients, assesses their progress and makes recommendations regarding discharge.
  6. Evaluates home, school or work environments and makes recommendations to reduce barriers to function.
  7. Consults and co-treats with therapists from other disciplines.
  8. Provides documentation of patient care according to established criteria.
  9. Participates in continuous quality improvement projects.
  10. Supervises the patient care activities of occupational therapy assistants and students.
  11. Participates in services, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, team meetings and other related activities.
  12. Assists with departmental maintenance and supplies.
  13. Provides in-services for staff, other departments and the community.
Requirements
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
  • Current licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Utah.
  • Pediatric experience.
  • Epic experience.
