Summary
Under direct supervision, the incumbent is tasked with managing the exchange and distribution of uniforms, bedding, and various linens within a correctional facility. Responsibilities include ensuring an adequate supply of uniforms and linens, overseeing inmate workers, documenting incidents, particularly those involving damage to County property, and performing related duties as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitates daily exchanges of clothing and bedding for detainees in their living areas.
- Receives and processes soiled uniforms, bedding, and other linens issued to detainees.
- Maintains accurate records of laundry exchanges.
- Supervises inmate teams responsible for stocking laundry carts.
- Oversees inmate teams in the laundering of soiled uniforms and linens.
- Ensures cleanliness and organization of the laundry area.
- Performs additional duties as required.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
- Familiarity with basic laundering techniques.
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions; maintain records and documents; establish and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues, County employees, and detainees.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Must pass a background investigation conducted by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screening is required.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts.
- Willingness to work beyond 40 hours during the workweek may be necessary.
- Work is conducted within an industrial laundry setting in a correctional environment, with exposure to damp conditions and limited contact with hazardous laundry chemicals, odors, and fumes.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. regularly and 25-60 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech, hearing, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity are essential for operating industrial laundry equipment. Tasks may involve handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and twisting to perform essential functions.
