Practical Nursing Specialist

The Practical Nursing Specialist is tasked with delivering direct nursing services to residents while overseeing the daily nursing operations carried out by nursing aides.
This oversight must align with the prevailing federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, as well as any directives from the Director of Nursing to guarantee the highest level of quality care is consistently upheld.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervise the daily activities of nursing aides.
2. Collaborate with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan services, programs, and activities for shifts.
3. Prepare written and verbal reports or recommendations regarding shift activities as necessary.
4. Manage the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents.
5. Provide guidance to nursing staff assigned to your unit or shift.
Complete and maintain necessary documentation upon resident admission, transfer, or discharge. Receive and accurately transcribe physician orders, recording them on the designated order forms.
Document nursing notes in a clear and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided and the resident's response to that care.
Complete and submit incident reports to the Director as required. Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.Administer medications as prescribed by physicians.
Foster and maintain positive working relationships with inter-departmental personnel and other facility departments to ensure nursing services meet resident needs.
Promote an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positivity, while maintaining a calm environment throughout the unit and during shifts.
Exchange nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts. Accompany physicians on rounds as necessary.PROFESSIONAL SERVICES INCLUDE:
catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing changes, colostomy care, drainage management, blood draws, and providing massages and range of motion exercises, as required.
Oversee nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety protocols regarding equipment and supplies.
Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information, and report any known or suspected breaches.
Ensure that all nursing care is delivered in a private manner, and that nursing staff knock before entering resident rooms.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this role, an individual must successfully fulfill each essential duty. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
- Licensed Practical Nurse with a current, unencumbered state license.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
- Capable of making independent decisions when necessary.
- Knowledgeable about nursing and medical practices, as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to nursing care facilities.
- Current CPR Certification is mandatory.
- Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.
