About the Role

We are seeking a talented Database Performance Engineer to join our team at Amazon Aurora. As a key member of our service team, you will play a critical role in scaling performance for our cloud relational database.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with our service team, database engineers, and solution architects to analyze performance bottlenecks and make recommendations for scaling.
  • Develop and implement automated performance regression testing and analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers, database engineers, and solution architects to design new functionality and improve performance.
  • Build and run automation and benchmark tests to improve quality, performance, and scalability.
  • Analyze new designs for performance and scaling.
  • Research issues experienced by customers and find or invent solutions.
About the Team

Amazon Aurora is one of the fastest-growing AWS services, providing and managing relational databases as a service. Our team takes relational open-source databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL to their limits, solving challenges that no other database environment sees.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience with performance bottleneck analysis and system design for scaling.
  • Experience with database internals, server/operating system internals, storage system internals, and performance scaling for these.
  • Experience implementing automated performance regression test suites for databases, new server/storage system hardware, and new database features.
  • Working knowledge of operating system internals and/or relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, recovery paths).
  • Knowledge of database internals such as system catalogs.
  • Working knowledge of at least one stored procedure language, at least one scripting language, and at least one application programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience migrating legacy on-prem code to cloud-native stacks.
  • Experience migrating application code from commercial database engines to open-source engines.
  • Experience building application and database systems with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Software performance analysis and bottleneck identification, scaling, automation experience.
  • Published papers, articles, blogs on performance at industry events, benchmark results, or academic events.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $194,200/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
