Job Title: Histotechnologist Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Histotechnologist Lead to join our team at Sutter Health.

Job Summary:

The Histotechnologist Lead will be responsible for integrating advanced knowledge, theory, and practice to serve as a subject matter expert in assigned areas of the laboratory. This role will involve maintaining competence in all histology practices, performing pre-analytic and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens, and aiding healthcare providers in the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of disease.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in and coordinate all aspects of the daily operation of the assigned laboratory areas.
  • Monitor, assess, organize, and coordinate the daily activities of co-workers to ensure a smooth and continuous workflow overall or within an assigned area.
  • Direct staff scheduling, arrange coverage for staff absences, assign work, prioritize work, direct problem-solving and trouble-shooting, ensure shift-to-shift continuity, and manage customer complaints or inquiries.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED)
  • 4 years of recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise and superior technical competence in specimen collection and processing, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in histology
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for self and team to ensure completion within expected time-frames
  • Ability to lead team to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks, demonstrating sound judgment and problem-solving relevant to own and team's assigned duties
  • Culturally competent communication skills, with the ability to compassionately and effectively interact with individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs, and behaviors
  • Ability to coordinate team's efforts to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems, such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues
  • Ability to direct team to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence, with knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients
  • Ability to train, provide constructive feedback and recognition to, mentor, and coach peers, reinforcing Sutter's values and focusing team's efforts on providing safe, reliable care
Work Environment:

This role will be based in a laboratory setting, with a focus on histology and biological specimen processing. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.

Pay Range: $54.29 to $67.85 per hour

Compensation takes into account several factors, including but not limited to, a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure, and certifications, department equity, training, and organizational needs.
