Overview:
As a Surgical Preparation Licensed Practical Nurse, you will work under the guidance of a registered nurse to deliver a range of patient care services. Your role will require you to provide care tailored to the specific needs of patients across various age groups. You will demonstrate a solid understanding of the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. Your responsibilities will include assisting the registered nurse in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. You will be accountable for your nursing actions and competencies, ensuring effective communication with your team and patients.

Qualifications:
Education:

  • Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Valid LPN licensure in the state of Illinois.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to position and transfer an average adult patient, along with the gross coordination necessary for various patient care tasks.
  • Capacity to endure extended periods of standing and perform complex manipulative skills such as IV insertion and IM injections.
  • Awareness of environmental conditions, including exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and potentially hazardous materials.

Annual Requirements:

  1. Participation in all mandatory in-services as specified by regulatory bodies and management.
  2. Validation of competencies and acquisition of credentials as per unit-specific requirements.
  3. Completion of an annual self-evaluation and submission of peer feedback during performance reviews.

Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:

  • Data Collection: Observe, document, and report both objective and subjective patient data, recognizing signs of deviation from normal health.
  • Planning: Provide essential information to assist the RN in formulating the nursing care plan.
  • Intervention: Execute delegated tasks and procedures safely, respond appropriately in emergencies, and administer medications accurately.
  • Evaluation: Monitor and report patient responses to interventions, assisting the RN in evaluating and adjusting care plans.
  • Patient/Family Education: Support the RN in identifying and implementing age-appropriate educational interventions.

2. Quality and Safety:

  • Document and communicate potential risks to the appropriate personnel.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the review and enhancement of policies and standards of care.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols.

3. Accountability:

  • Advocate for patients and their families, following the established chain of command.
  • Participate in community organizations and identify personal professional development goals.
  • Provide constructive feedback to enhance the nursing division and collaborate with colleagues.

4. Additional Duties:
Perform other related tasks as required or requested.
