Job Summary:

SpaceX is seeking a skilled Structures Technician to join our team in Hawthorne, CA. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for the modification, repair, assembly, and installation of rocket and spacecraft components.

Responsibilities:

  • Modification, repair, assembly, and installation of rocket and spacecraft components
  • Use of tooling holes, pilot holes, or by hand, per drawing or tooling instructions
  • Alignment of parts and securing in place using clecos or tooling/hand clamps
  • Checking for good edge margins and alignment
  • Shimming and/or trimming parts as required
  • Selecting drill bits, reamers, and/or countersinking tools for pilot and full-size holes
  • Drilling pilot holes using a drill motor and proper size drill bit(s)
  • Drilling, reaming, and countersinking full-size holes in parts/assemblies, in proper sequence and to correct size using a drill motor
  • Setting countersinking tools to proper depth as required
  • Disassembling parts and deburring holes using chip chasers, deburring tools, and files to prepare for installation of fasteners
  • Using solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly
  • Applying sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, and special finishes
  • Loading and unloading ovens to bond detail parts to assemblies
  • Handling and disposing of hazardous materials in an approved manner
  • Determining and obtaining the correct type and size fasteners
  • Cold working holes to prepare for close-tolerance fastener installation
  • Installing bushings into housings using an arbor press and/or hydraulic puller
  • Applying liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings
  • Installing fasteners in the correct sequence per drawing, using the correct tools (e.g., rivet gun and bucking bar, drill motor, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner)

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of assembly experience
  • Experience gained through the military or within an aviation manufacturing company
  • High-volume manufacturing experience
  • Experience drilling, reaming, honing, and/or countersinking straight and close-tolerance holes
  • Experience using various types of hand tools and/or hand-held power tools, floor-mounted power tools, and precision measuring tools
  • Ability to visualize a three-dimensional shape from a two-dimensional view and understanding symbols, flag notes, and general notes
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations accurately (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions)
  • Experience making basic layouts on parts or assemblies in order to establish reference points and to check dimensions
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
  • Experience operating computing equipment

Additional Requirements:

  • This is a 2nd shift position (1:00 pm - 11:30 pm) with additional overtime or weekend work as needed
  • Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. unassisted
