Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Wellstar Health System, Inc. as a Team Lead. This is a leadership role that requires a strong background in diagnostic medical sonography and cardiovascular technology, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision
    • Develop and maintain department personnel schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
    • Maintain modality workflow to ensure patient throughput, equipment utilization, and meet patient expectations regarding wait time and thoroughness of exam.
    • Maintain staff educational records, ensure orientation records, certifications are valid, and departmental competencies and mandatory staff requirements are completed within designated timeframe.
    • Assure that adequate equipment and supplies are available and maintained in the modality.
  • Patient Care and Quality Control
    • Coordinate work activities with physicians and other hospital departments.
    • Display AIDET properly and courteously answer and screen telephone calls, personally addressing needs and directing call to appropriate person or taking a message if the intended receiver is unavailable.
    • Competently perform the duties of assigned personnel in accordance with standards for the position, as needed to ensure continuity and/or timeliness of service.
    • Assist other technologists with difficult patients, observe patient condition, and properly evaluate situations when physician intervention is necessary.
  • Education and Communications
    • Maintain manuals and other assigned administrative records on an ongoing basis, ensuring requirements are up-to-date.
    • Provide for the orientation and on-going training of assigned staff, ensuring comprehensive documentation is established and maintained.
    • Participate in the orientation and training of departmental employees, complete departmental mandatory and Hospital-wide education without prompting.
  • Quality Control and Operations
    • Serve as a quality control coordinator, evaluating accuracy and technical quality of studies performed within their area of responsibility.
    • Implement all departmental policies and procedures, direct responsibility for budget recommendations for staffing, supplies, equipment, and other operational expenses.
    • Interview applicants and make hiring recommendations, orient, train, supervise, and evaluate new staff within established timeframes.
    Requirements
    • Education
      • Equivalent from an accredited program.
    • License(s) and Certification(s)
      • Reg Cardiac Sonographer - CCI or Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer.
      • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor.
    • Experience
      • Prefer three (3) years supervisory experience.
      • Five (5) years experience in Modality Required.
    • Skills
      • Excellent communication skills, ability to function independently and under pressure, and exhibit excellent customer service skills.
      • Ability to prioritize appropriately, be detail-oriented, and have the capacity to effectively multitask throughout the work shift.
