Job Role Overview:

The Environmental Services Worker I is responsible for ensuring a clean and orderly environment within the healthcare facility. This role includes various cleaning responsibilities, reporting on task completion, and communicating areas needing attention to the Environmental Services Supervisor. The worker is also expected to respond promptly to cleaning requests in patient discharge areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform dry cleaning and wet cleaning of carpets and furniture.
  • Utilize auto scrubbers for floor maintenance, adhering to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Manage the collection and disposal of regulated medical waste and solid waste, following established safety protocols.
  • Respond efficiently to cleaning requests for patient discharge rooms, in line with departmental policies.
  • Keep the supervisor informed about task progress and assist colleagues as necessary, fostering teamwork.
  • Adhere to scheduled breaks and remain within designated work areas.
  • Exhibit thorough cleaning practices, ensuring high-quality results and completing assigned tasks and work orders.
  • Engage with patients and customers using the AIDET model for exemplary service.
  • Conduct cleaning operations in assigned areas according to a set schedule, employing the 7-Step Cleaning Procedure.
  • Prepare cleaning solutions according to instructions to prevent damage to surfaces and ensure safety.
  • Regularly empty and clean waste receptacles; manage trash removal and relining of bins.
  • Handle soiled linens appropriately, ensuring proper cleaning and disinfection of beds and related areas.
  • Dust and disinfect high surfaces, ensuring all areas are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness in restrooms, ensuring all fixtures are sanitized and polished.
  • Keep the janitorial closet organized and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Adjust and clean furnishings and report any maintenance needs observed during cleaning.
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained in a clean and safe condition, reporting any repair needs promptly.
Job Requirements:
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English instructions.
  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, or healthcare settings is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull weights up to 20 pounds regularly.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Effective communication skills suitable for various age groups.
  • Ability to work from heights, including ladders.
  • Capacity to navigate stairs safely.
  • Proficient in operating cleaning equipment, including vacuums.
  • Ability to use furniture-moving equipment effectively.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
