As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Hospice Aide provides essential support under the guidance of the Clinical Manager or designated Supervisor. This role is focused on delivering compassionate care to individuals facing terminal illnesses, ensuring their comfort and dignity in various environments. Weekend and holiday shifts are part of the commitment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personal care services, including light housekeeping and meal preparation, as outlined in the care plan.
  • Exhibit understanding of standard safety protocols and execute basic infection control measures.
  • Educate family members or caregivers on effective techniques to assist with the patient's personal care needs.
  • Perform personal hygiene tasks to enhance and sustain patient cleanliness.
  • Support patients in completing essential daily living activities.
  • Assist patients with mobility and prescribed exercises.
  • Help patients manage medications that they typically administer themselves.
  • Utilize appropriate body mechanics to ensure patient safety during care.
  • Communicate any changes in the patient's condition or care requirements to the supervisory team or relevant personnel, covering physical, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects.
  • Document all care provided in compliance with agency standards.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in team meetings and other agency gatherings as required.
  • Complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of position-specific training or education annually.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Note: All employees in this role must be adaptable to work across various Community Hospice locations.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of combined experience in home care, hospital, or long-term care settings is required, with a preference for experience in caring for terminally ill patients.
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of Florida is mandatory.
  • A valid Florida Driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the Community Hospice insurance provider, along with reliable transportation, is necessary.
