Job Title: Van Driver

Join the Linn-Mar Community School District team as a Van Driver, responsible for ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students and staff while operating District school vehicles.

Job Summary:

This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating District vehicles, following strict time schedules, and providing a safe and secure environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate District vehicles to transport students and staff to and from assigned routes, following strict time schedules.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for students and staff, adhering to Federal/State laws, traffic laws, and District policies.
  • Perform daily pre and post-trip inspections and submit completed inspection forms to ensure the safety of assigned District vehicles and passengers.
  • Implement appropriate student management/behavior strategies and communicate/report student behavior issues to the Transportation Manager.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems in District vehicles for passenger comfort.
  • Participate in required District training and maintain a valid Iowa Class D Chauffeur license with passenger endorsement.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age preceding the opening of the school year.
  • Hold a valid Iowa Class D Chauffeur license with passenger endorsement, or be willing to obtain one.
  • Ability to read maps, follow written and verbal geographic directions, and effectively communicate in both oral and written form.
  • Knowledge of Federal/State traffic laws and ability to solve conflicts in a constructive manner.
Work Environment:

The work environment is fast-paced, with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures and slippery surfaces. The noise level is frequently loud, and the employee must be able to talk loudly to be heard.

Drivers are subject to a pre-employment drug screen, state-mandated quarterly random drug/alcohol testing, motor vehicle driving record, and background check.
