Additionally, the engineer conducts market research, gathers quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, and prepares comprehensive cost estimates and proposals. Their expertise is essential for ensuring precise budgeting and pricing across sectors such as construction, manufacturing, and engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve proficiency in Powell's automation solutions and offerings.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews to understand customer requirements in proposals, including system designs, single line diagrams, site layouts, and performance guarantees.
  • Collaborate with other divisions within Powell to create integrated business solutions.
  • Analyze market data to evaluate current conditions and trends, aiding in the development of future automation solutions.
  • Contribute to the specification of new and existing products.
  • Foster the growth of automation by establishing and maintaining strong client relationships, enhancing customer experiences, and providing innovative solutions.
  • Assist in the creation of formal internal proposals, including technical budget estimates and cost justification models.
  • Become a subject matter expert in automation by developing solutions using products from various manufacturers.
  • Ensure adherence to the company's Health, Safety & Environmental policies in all aspects of site services.
  • Independently assess customer specifications for feasibility regarding Powell's manufacturing capabilities.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, including single-lines, three-lines, and control schematics.
  • Generate accurate proposals based on customer-supplied documentation.
  • Effectively communicate application concerns prior to proposal development.
  • Translate conceptual designs into actionable proposals.
  • Optimize proposed solutions for the benefit of both Powell and the customer.
  • Provide technical support to Powell Sales teams during discussions and solution development.
  • Evaluate sub-vendor proposals and assess associated risks.
  • Work with minimal supervision and may lead projects requiring input from multiple engineers.
  • Support sales initiatives by providing technical guidance and participating in presentations and networking events.

Secondary Responsibilities
  • Engage in sales and marketing activities, including client meetings.
  • Contribute to cost reduction initiatives in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
  • Conduct market studies as needed.
  • Assist in the specification of new and existing products.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 4 years of experience in electrical equipment estimating or a related discipline.

Skills and Requirements
  • Ability to review and interpret client documents, including specifications and drawings, with strong analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge in at least two of the following areas is preferred:
    • Networking and Cybersecurity
    • RTUs, HMIs, and SCADA Systems
    • Protective Relay programming
    • PLC applications for Switchgear
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly Oracle, is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in developing and commissioning projects related to control systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols and networking is a plus.
  • Knowledge of three-phase power systems is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Commitment to staying updated on industry trends and technologies.
