Job Title: LPN

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing support and assistance to our Medication Management Providers and program.

Job Summary:

The LPN will be responsible for preparing patients for visits with providers by performing and recording vital signs, reviewing patients' medical records for completeness, and assisting in preparing routine diagnostic/lab or referral request forms. Additionally, the LPN will refill medications using the EMR, communicate with clients about the status of refills, and submit required medication documentation in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for visits with providers by performing and recording vital signs
  • Review patients' medical records for completeness and update prior to patients' visit
  • Assist in preparing routine diagnostic/lab or referral request forms
  • Refill medications using the EMR and communicate with clients about the status of refills
  • Submit required medication documentation in a timely manner
  • Administer and record medication administration consistent with knowledge of pharmacology in accordance with center policy
  • Participate in preventive health teaching and education pertinent to procedures being conducted
  • Provide guidance to non-clinical staff regarding clinical issues
  • Triage incoming and outgoing phone calls, including monitoring mental health or medication problems and reports to the physician/medical staff
  • Coordinate client appointments for laboratory tests
  • Inform client of laboratory results, consult with client about the medical treatment plan, document in electronic medical record, and answer questions per the direction of medication management staff
  • Administer injections and other prescribed medications and treatments as ordered by providers
  • Demonstrate awareness of proper infection control practice by using Universal Precautions and following policies and procedures of MHA
  • Routinely inspect, clean, and monitor equipment, supplies, and treatment areas to ensure safety
  • Evaluate clients for side effects and efficacy of psychotropic medications and report problems to the client's physician
  • Routinely inventory and record supply of medication samples
  • Destruct outdated prescriptions in accordance with Agency policy
  • Meet deadlines and ensure accuracy of various report/paperwork, mileage sheets, and electronic timesheets
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and supervision with other providers
Requirements:
  • Maintain acceptable overall attendance record, to include department staff meetings, agency meetings, and trainings as required
  • Ensure appropriate notification to supervisor for absences, and ensure that work is covered
  • Flexible in work schedule when needed
  • Exhibits appropriate level of technical knowledge for the position
  • Produces quantity of work necessary to meet job requirements
  • Works well with a team, keeps others informed of information needed
  • Treats others with respect, maintaining a spirit of effective and professional verbal and written interactions with peers, customers, supervisors, and other staff

Education and Experience:
  • The LPN must currently hold a license through the Kansas State Board of Nursing
  • Must have ability to work with diverse groups of people; particularly children and adolescents; work under pressure, and with a large degree of independence
  • Possess excellent verbal/written communication skills, ability to analyze, and make sound decisions
  • A valid Kansas driver's license and access to personal vehicle required
Physical Requirements:
  • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time

  • Lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds
  • Driving for purpose of community mobility
