Job Description

Zachary Piper Companies is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Platform Engineer to join our team. This is a remote role that requires occasional visits to customers. Only candidates in the Los Angeles, DC, and Washington, DC areas should apply.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a seasoned engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Kubernetes, cloud security, and DevSecOps. They will work closely with our software development team to ensure a successful architecture and software product.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a well-architected and highly available software infrastructure in Kubernetes
  • Implement DevSecOps practices to ensure security and compliance with SOC2, NIST, and FedRAMP Medium controls
  • Own the Kubernetes deployment strategy and collaborate with the software development team
  • Develop secure ingress and egress to customer and vendor data centers
  • Provide best practices for availability, latency, and performance of services

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a reliability, systems, DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineer
  • Expertise in Kubernetes-based architecture and infrastructure
  • Strong proficiency in developing Infrastructure as Code (IAC) solutions using Terraform or alternative tools
  • Proficiency in Python and experience working with software teams developing distributed microservice software capabilities
  • Familiarity with cloud services in AWS (preferred) / Azure / GCP and ability to make trades on cloud native vs self-hosted software capabilities
  • Working knowledge of monitoring tools such as New Relic, DataDog, Splunk, AWS CloudWatch or similar
  • Understanding of networking using VPN's, NLB/ALB's, HTTPS, TLS, and CDN
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, containerized applications, and serverless architecture
  • Strong knowledge of designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting APIs services, distributed NoSQL and relational databases, caching systems, event-driven and multi-tier architectures
  • Strong knowledge of task automation and CI/CD pipeline building, preferably with GitHub actions but not required
  • Understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices and cost-effective cloud architecture
  • Use of identity and access management via Auth0 or Okta
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub or similar framework for version control

Soft Skills:

  • Deep technical analysis and troubleshooting skills
  • Independent self-starter; able to complete projects on time with minimal guidance
  • A high standard for software maintainability, quality, resilience, and performance
  • Strong communications skills and ability to engage effectively across development teams, program management, and customers

Security Clearance:

US Citizenship and a Top Secret Security clearance are required.
